Just to add. we had an awful experience with Tony Hackett and his associate Tom Long and Thorpe.

We thought we were buying our dream home, it was a nightmare. Property only worth half of what we paid for!

He is deceitful and his workmen charge double. Scalea is full of apartments and will be difficult to rent. (Although of course he said we’d have no problem)

Get an independent evaluation.

Like the story above he used a translator as an agent. Accepted oversea bank transfers which are illegal. Told us we were buying a fully furnished apartment..did nothing and now we are just told our apartment is only worth half we paid for after putting all the work in. He should be prosecuted.

Feel sorry for you, it sounds terrible!

Although, FYI only, paying by bank transfer for the property is perfectly normal and is accepted form of payment from about 2014 or so by all notaries and lawyers (before that it was only Italian bank to Italian bank check or transfer).

We bought pre-2014.

Happy I saw that before we buy a property from Tony Hackett. What about other estate agents. Does anyone know something about Ivan De Luca?

I’ve met him 1–2 times, seems a good guy. However american woman Chris Sobolev who’s pushing Ivan’s services for commissions under her supersavvytravelers.com website, where she is posing as an «expert» in everything, does not worth collaborating with as she 90% of the time does not know what’s she’s talking about (especially her stupid opinions on  freehold vs leasehold etc.)

Yes, heard of her…

We purchased our place in Scalea through Tony with no issues. In fact, he saved us over 10,000 euros on our purchase. We had renovations done through him as well and were happy with the results.

We’d suggest agency that owns this site, they are great.
